Over four incredible days, Cornish Contraptions transformed Redruth into a hub of creativity, curiosity, and invention. With around 1,000 visitors, the exhibition brought new audiences to the town and showcased the innovative work of makers from our own Invention Club and around the area.
We’re delighted to announce that Redruth Town Council has approved our funding application to help cover the costs of our upcoming exhibition.
We’re organising an exhibition of interactive amusements, curiosities, games and machines, showcasing the talent, ingenuity and playfulness of our local community.
Yesterday, I met ‘Rubbish Ruth’ – Redruth’s town councillor and litter campaigner. We spoke about her passion for a cleaner, more connected Redruth and what our latest plans are.
We are really grateful to Redruth Charity Trust for awarding Fluxus Cornwall CIC a donation to enable us to purchase electronics equipment to expand our workshops for younger people.
We’ve been reflecting on what we’ve achieved so far and planning our next steps. Looking back on this year’s work has been encouraging, reminding us of the many different things we’ve accomplished and the hundreds of people we’ve collaborated with. We’re onto something great.

We had a lovely time launching the first of our weekly Invention Workshops yesterday. The Art Room was buzzing with energy as ideas for bonkers contraptions and games started to flow.
We were invited to Camborne Library to hold a mini-automata workshop for Trevithick Day. This was a fun way to experiment with basic mechanisms and use tools for the first time.
We had a great evening at Redruth Soup Night, where we pitched our vision for a weekly invention club.
We were a little bit blown away by all the people who came to see our mini-exhibition. Thank you everyone for your enthusiasm and encouragement – we are so grateful, and thoroughly enjoyed meeting you!
Workshop 2 was a full day of tinkering at The Art Room and some really clever (and weird!) interactive objects were created.
The first idea-generating workshop took place at Bill’s Attic – a really great space packed with all kinds of different items to look at and be inspired by.
